Keeping Your Lawn Weed Free

There are several things that you can do to keep broadleaf weed invasions to a minimum.

To reduce weed-seed germination in your Fescue lawns, mow your lawn at 3″ or higher. The added shade provided by the increased height reduces weed seeds from germinating. For your warm weather lawns you need to keep them cut at 2″ which will force them to grow out instead of up. This will lead to a thicker lawn that will choke out weeds.

During dry spells, water enough to keep your turf health and growing instead of going dormant. This requires about 1″ – 1.5″ of water per week. Aerate the soil yearly to encourage healthy roots and a thicker lawn.

Make You Lawn Grub-free

Once your lawn is green and free of weeds, it still may be the perfect place for grubs. White grub worms feed on grass roots even in the most pristine yards. These little beetle larvae can cause big problems if left untreated.

To combat these tiny intruders, your entire lawn will receive a separate treatment application to eliminate grub worms before they do any damage. This treatment is typically made in late spring and will protect your lawn through the year until the following spring.
